Well yeah, I look different than I did in photos in my twenties, that's no shock. And of course, some pictures are just unflattering... that's even true for movie stars. There is a lot you can do about it if you dislike your appearance as time goes on. Color you hair if you dislike the grey, that's an easy one. Exercise if you don't like your body. Smile for the camera! Smiling helps a lot. Wear a different outfit that might be more flattering. If photos really bother you, just consider it a wake-up call and do something to help yourself feel better about your appearance. You can do it! Everyone can.

For sure on the above suggestions! Especially washing out the gray with hair color or highlights. And men can lose the beards and mustaches which age them.
Big thing too, IMO, is clothing. Wear colorful activewear or casual clothing and shoes. Accent jewelry or cute watches that show a zestful and positive outlook. ''Snazzy, jazzy, fun looking stuff.''
Eyewear can also make you look like granny/gramps or youthful and full of life. As can body splashes, etc.
Simple touches that bespeak a ''live wire'', not a ''dead socket ''! LOL
My suggestions are off topic and not for every one. Just my way of doing.

And for women, decent foundation garments. Leave the sports bras for sports. That is if the way you look concerns you.

I do. It doesn't help. Can't "build up" skin like you can muscle.

Facetime and Skype are not flattering to the aging face either, so I stick with speaker phone or conference calls.

What I dislike is people who say "Oh you don't look that old" to me. (age 74)

Going into the outpatient center for an EGD, the nurse said "When was your last menstrual period?" I told her she needed glasses. And then," Oh, you don't look that old !!!"

Everytime. Cameras are just not the quality they used to be

Made me laugh. I've been asked the same. Hilarious, isn't it?

It's called a "resting b*tch face", basically a miserable looking neutral expression. I have to consciously hold something of a half-smile in social settings, or else people will ask me what's wrong

It's important to remember that not everybody is photogenic. I know a lot of people who look average in person, but always look sublime on camera, and visa versa. I've found that a lot of people who do modelling often look very average in person, but of course they're paid for what they look like on camera.

There's also a phenomenon where our brain becomes confused by camera images of ourselves. When we look in mirror we see a flipped image of our faces, this is what we're accustomed to, but it isn't how the rest of the world sees us. Our faces are asymmetrical, so when you flip an image we essentially get a rearranged image of your face. Familiarity breeds liking, we see our faces in the mirror all the time, when we brush our teeth, shave, wash our face, etc. So when we see ourselves in a photo our brain can become confused, it begins to wonder what this hideous monster is, and wants to slay it!

I've tested this theory and found it be true. If I take selfie of myself I often like to save it as a flipped mirror image, because to me the real version just seems bizarre. Yet I dare say that if my friends saw both pictures, they would think that the mirror image that I'm comfortable with looks weird to them.
