are you talking with a long term care partnership plan ?

if you are then what usually happens is if there is a reciprocity agreement , then after the insurance runs out the plan reverts to a dollar for a dollar and not total asset protection .

so if medicaid spends 500k on your care up to 500k in assets is protected and does not count . in state all our assets are protected and covered .

don't forget , just having long term care insurance does not have the perks of asset and income protection . it has to be a partnership plan .

partnership plan coverage and perks varies with the state , but the reciprocity is always a dollar for a dollar . we bought our plan for the perks , not the 3 years coverage .
