We're wintering in a small Gulf Coast town in Florida where we walk to everywhere by choice and the supermarket is a 10 min car ride. Last week we walked to a Craft Beer Fest and on Tuesday to a Mardi Gras Fest. We walk the trail, we walk downtown, we walk to dinner and we walk to the brew pubs. We've met some great people our age, we went to dinner with two couples we like and we plan to do it again. My cell phone is busting with new numbers. There's a lot to be said for people who are fiercely independent, who seek out their own entertainment, and who are emotionally available instead of schedule keepers who show up to planned activities. We live in a 55+ up north and I hate to go back. I miss no one. I can see now that it's too routine, too programmed. I love our winter place with people of all ages from all walks of life. But if we were, someday, to move to another 55+, I'd definitely want to look into Margaritaville. The Villages.. been there. There's reason to take note of people who'd retire miles and miles from the beauty of either coast for life at The Villages.
To whomever sent me a direct message, my tablet won't let me open it and I'm too lazy to dig out the laptop. The town is Dunedin, FL. We love it here. Walk, walk, walk.
We are not Parrott Heads, but we like his music and message. This appears to be another retirement option, but it will have a premium price added to it since it bears the name and involvement of Mr. Buffett. I probably won't have any interest in living there.
Would be interested in hearing why the Daytona area isn't desirable? I don't live in FL so I'm interested in hearing about it since the Margaritaville Community sounds interesting (note, I live in a golf course community right now)....
You say that (Miracle Whip & Wonder bread) like it's a bad thing. That's what I grew up on, and my first choice today, although Wonder Bread is a rare thing here on the Big Island.
Pretty slick marketing but once you buy in, it will be like all the others... bingo at 3, line dancing at 4, BYOB progressive dinner at 5. Just wear your Jimmy Buffet attire.
