Since I've retired, I have become increasingly more inclined to not worry about my weight as long as I FEEL good (or at least healthy). In other words, I am no longer as concerned with even trying to look good. There are three reasons for this: First, the thinner I am, the older my skin looks; second, it is hard to be motivated now when I look old no matter what I do or how much I weigh; and third, as I am finding fewer and fewer things I enjoy doing now, it is difficult for me to say No to desserts and snacks and seconds if I feel hungry. In short, my motivation to even try to look "attractive" is completely shot.
Do any of you feel this way? And if not, how do YOU stay motivated to be as attractive as you can be?

No, but I don't wear make up anymore. I don't like a lot of carbs, even cake. I like to eat fresh fruit. I still have no wrinkles, but I have grey hair. I'm not sure that I care to be attractive or non attractive. I'm just the same person. But it did give a pause to think about my looks when my kids went through pictures of the whole family recently, pictures that we took maybe 9 to 10 years ago and they said mom used to look younger. Ouch! And Dad used to have less grey hair. More Ouch! And I thought my husband doesn't have that much grey hair. But the kids did notice. A little sad for a few seconds but I've since soon recovered from the shock.
I try not to think about it a lot. I know I should weigh less both for how I look and my doctor would like it if I did. But I only give that a brief thought. Took me a while to accept myself as I am and I'm not going to mess that up. I'm 75, have always looked younger than I am but in the past year I've lost a lot of that "charm".
I know I am not going to live forever. I don't believe death is imminent. I feel good. My body still moves tho not as fast as it once did. Not quite as flexible but that's OK. I haven't lost my mind yet.
Don't wear makeup other than lipstick and a little color on my facial cheeks (haha). But it fades quickly.
I've been retired for 13 yrs or so and found myself playing bridge a lot and eating all the "crap snacks" served at these games. I put on probably 30 yrs over these yrs and it came off due to a hospital/rehab stay and the drugs which caused loss of appetite, so I'm working to keep that 30 lbs off. Not good for joints for starters. I don't eat breads, cakes, cookies etc. like some fresh fruits daily. Don't overdose on fruits either.

nope. Well after I retired and since I was in the military, I decided to just let go. I also have thyroid disease so letting go made the pounds pack on. At one point I was starting to have breathing issues. And then I saw pictures - no thanks. The pounds came off. Now I do have lapses every now and then, but haven't in a while.
I just don't want to be overweight. I want to be able to move around. I like exercising and feeling good. And all around me I see nothing but big people.
I live in south texas - the fattest part of the country. Its crazy. I don't want to be like everyone else.
And I don't color my hair or wear lots of makeup, so its not about being "attractive" - its just not wanting to be subject to disease and pain.
Oh, goodness. I certainly haven't done a full make-up job in years, but I need to maintain my weight for health reasons, and as long as I'm going to be out in public, I'll get my hair cut on a regular basis and wear clean clothing.
Giving up sugar is like giving up drugs. Especially sodas........ if you do nothing else, give up as much sugar as possible, start slowly replacing bad food with good, get a walking partner.....etc. I was 35 lbs overweight, and my age and health brought me to s bad place. My hellish month, to give up soda, including diet (the worse), and making myself go out to buy ANYTHING Sweet, began to get better and better. I won't lie, it was a good year before I made enough progress, I had a cheat day.......but you will be amazed how possible it is in a short amount of time. Good luck, stick,with, and never stop dancing......turn on some music instead of answering this crap
I walk about four miles a day at least four times a week and go to evening exercise class at least twice a week.
I don't drink sodas or even sweet tea.
I can't believe they don't set out the unsweetened tea dispenser at our local Dairy Queen cuz no one drinks it! Diabetic city around here.
