We don't go out to restaurants during the weekend when we know they will be
busy. It seems like retirees would like to go at a less busy time. (We are 70)

To drive you kids crazy.
I stand there at the checkout stand, write a check and then balance my checkbook.
Also chitchat with the cashier for an extra long time.
And, someday, when I am old enough to own a Buick, watch out in the parking lot.

I'm the OP. Been retired since age 50, fourteen years ago.

I started the thread because I am always astonished that so many of our friends invite us to meet them for dinner, and they always want to go on Friday or Saturday night.

And as a worker-bee. I WAS annoyed by retirees who grocery shopped during evening rush hour, often paying by writing a check (WHO writes checks???), and/or begin searching inside their purse AFTER the cashier shows them the total....like they thought it was going to be free????

I swore I was never going to be like that, and so far I'm not!

I always try to go out at hours that won't interfere with folks who work and pay Social Security.

You are wound awful tight, man. Sounds like you are impatient, and cannot stand to wait for anything. That's a "you" problem, not an "everyone else" problem.

I retired at 45 - two years ago - and still think of Friday and Saturday as "going out" nights. That's just traditionally when people go out. If "so many" of your friends still prefer to dine out on Fri or Sat then maybe you ought to consider that *you* are the exception rather than the rule.

Slow down and enjoy life a little bit more! And stop worrying about the habits of others so much.

When I retire in December, our shopping and dinners will be on Tuesday and Thursdays. I most probably won't leave my home on the weekend.

I don't particularly enjoy shopping with little kids running around, feeding time at Costco, etc.

Well, at least someone else gets it.

It never enters my mind. I'll go places when I please. What makes retirees as a class unfit to go anywhere they choose at whatever hour they like? I think we had another thread like this a while back. I hear a thousand tiny violins playing hearts and flowers.

Maybe they, like OP, don't want to be around Old people. (Or moms with preschool children).

After all, what do the caregiving threads always quote elderly parents saying about assisted living? "Mom didn't like it, said there were too many Old People!"

Some can't seem to get over "it's the weekend!" There are no more weekends.

I live in a 55+ so the other things don't apply to me. It's old people everywhere.
