Retirees in Phoenix and Las Vegas, will you probably stay in tomorrow since it's supposed to reach 120 degrees in both cities? Health risk warnings are issued. And some major airlines are grounding flights for the heatwave.

When I lived in Phoenix the temp hit 119. No big deal. That is just a few degrees hotter than typical.

This only affects if you fly regional airline if they fly using Bombardier CRJ Aircraft because it can only handle 118 degree max. Not the big planes from Boeing or Airbus because they can handle up to 126 degrees. Hottest time is between 3pm-6pm.

"American Airlines has already grounded 38 flights at the Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix for Tuesday, and they are warning passengers that more may be cancelled as the temperature is expected to soar to 120 degrees."

"Extreme heat creates changes in the air density that makes it harder for airplanes to take off. Airlines respond by imposing weight restrictions, such as carrying less cargo and fuel. But in some cases, they will ground flights during the peak heat."

No, it won't make any difference in our plans. Only change it makes in our routine is that we bring our dogs inside the house.

Whenever I fly to Death Valley during the summer, I get arrive and depart way before sun up. No shade to park your plane and once the sun comes up, it's too hot to even sit inside the plane, let alone handle the controls.
