The thing is, the word "you" can be used as both a personal pronoun or an impersonal pronoun.

Using "one" would have avoided the confusion but it is on the archaic side.

From my point of view, lazy retiree here, a generic you will allow one to type one syllable less. More efficient. For example, one likes vs you like.
