At age 62 I retired from full time work at the end of Feb. this year, and started a part-time job on Apr. 3rd. Job is only every other week, and during the off-week I do volunteer work. I am not a guy to be *totally* retired. Gotta be busy. I'm happiest that way.
But at least I am out of the horrible manufacturing environment I was in for 21 yrs.

It's hard when old posts pop up and I see the name of a poster who has passed away. RIP.

I retired 6 years ago ….but I have been doing training for my old company one day a week because I like it .

I would do it free as a volunteer so the fact I get paid for it is a bonus …

It has been bringing in 20-30k a year doing various fill in work for them when they need it too , so I intend to do it as long as possible .

I also have my drumming career I restarted in retirement , as well as we sell some of our photography shots .

So I have all this as well as we serve as volunteer photographers for the nyc parks dept for special events in a park near our house …

None of that is work to me as I would do it all free if I had to

That's why I plan to retire just as soon as I feel I'm financially able to -- about 18 months is the goal.
My mom always said: "No day is promised to anybody."

Others can work until they're 100 if they want to and that makes them happy.
If I can help if -- that sure won't be me.

I don't even want to work part-time.

I quit at the end of 2017, and haven't the the desire to return to any position. I am really enjoying my free time, -whenever I can find some. Retirement is turning out to be the busiest and most productive period of my life so far.

And yes, I miss Escort Rider's comments too.

I retired 4 times.

They kept begging me to return as a consultant and they met my terms so I worked several contracts at 20 hours per week. Bottom line: I loved it.

But now, at 71, I'm done.

No regrets.

I retired early with reduced pension at 55 and took on a part-time job 18 months later. I have been working this job for nearly two years and it quickly moved to a nearly full-time position. Since it is tying up too much of my time, I am planning to leave when my contract ends at the end of the year (or sooner if possible). If I do any work in the future it will be strictly part-time on a defined schedule that works with my schedule.

I don't need to work but do like being involved in something that challenges me a few days a week and gives me an opportunity to interact with some great people. I also do some volunteer work but that is a different type of engagement. Many volunteer organizations are more akin to political organizations than business ones leading to completely different methods of problem solving and decision making. I am less interested in getting bogged down in politics at this point in my life.

I went out with a package at 62 that included a year and a months pay and 18 months medical. Pension of $4,800 a month. After two months my wife said “I married you for life not lunch, get a job”. Began working for a world renowned drug and alcohol treatment center bringing in and taking patients out after treatment. They work around my schedule and I typically do two or three runs a week when I’m available. Interesting and rewarding work that for some odd reason I’m well suited for. I’ve been working for them for five years now, all parties happy including my wife.

I retired at 58 (12 years ago). To me retired is RETIRED. I have zero desire, want or need to work ever again. Never. Ever. Ever.
