I haven't done the Orient Express, but my wife and I did go on one of the other great luxury train rides of the world a couple of years ago: The Ghan through Australia's Outback. Truly a wonderful experience.
Thanks for sharing! What a wonderful trip! I've never looked at train travel in Australia-----this is fabulous!

I hope to be sort of homesteading next year. I'm looking to buy some land and for a couple of years, I'll be living rough on it either in a shed or a small trailer or even my car because I won't be able to put up a permanent shelter right away. So I expect to be without electricity or even water, although I hope I can find property with a well. If nothing else, I'd like to get a garden going.
Frankly, all the talk about sitting in our rooms counting money, avoiding snow like the plague, moving into age '55' facilities, and counting hospitals in a 30 mile radius from home is giving me the Heebee Jeebies! Hey, I get it, and know we're all aging, but at age 66, that is not stopping DW and I from planning some stupid / fun adventures in the upcoming years. Motorcycles, backpacking, nature photography, etc.
Anybody do anything wild lately? Bungy Jump? Yell at the cat? Cut your toenails with Snippy the Scissors?
Anything??
Um.... yeah. Why would you think differently?
I went shark diving, wake boarding, tons of hiking, photography is a constant hobby.... Going snow boarding early next year. My husband rides a bike, so we go out on weekends. Yes, I have bungee jumped. I'll be horseback riding in the next couple months, hang glider is planned in the next year, and jet propulsion packs in the ocean...
Guess what? Sometimes I sit home, read, crochet and garden.
What is it to you how people want to live their lives?

We did the two-day trip from Adelaide to Alice Springs and then spent a few days there in the Outback. It was the tail end of our two-month trip to NZ and Australia and then we flew to L.A. from Alice Springs.
Scroll down to archives and have some interesting reading. Hint: It will be more interesting to start at the bottom and go forward from April 2013. They give a lot of good information that you will get at no other place is my opinion.
Then go to www.extraholidays.com and you can visit some of the same places they have been. We do that.

Hey, since you asked. People can do with their lives anything they want- doesn't affect me one way or another. But when it comes to reading threads about how people are adapting to retirement, it is much more encouraging for me to face aging by seeing that people are still enjoying and finding adventure in their daily lives. However small or large that adventure may be. I have a big relocation adventure happening right now, but am also finding times for simple ones, too. One of these simple ones was to find and categorize the types of amphibians I have on my small lot where I currently live. So far I have identified three types (maybe four, still investigating) of beautiful little toads/tree frogs, and blue-spotted salamanders. Cost of this little adventure? Uh, Zero. Adventure is what you make it.
Maybe it's just me, but personally I would MUCH MUCH rather read threads about people enjoying crocheting and gardening, than threads about how much more healthcare costs daily- I'm tiring of all the news of doom and gloom in our lives.
Just my take on life.
