Margaret Small will start her cycling adventure in aid of charity Women v Cancer later this month.

Margaret Small could quite rightly be described as wonder woman and shows no sign of slowing down.

To say she is a keen cyclist is an understatement because she is about to embark on a mammoth 400km cycling mission across Brazil at the ripe age of 75.

I used to ride and it is something I need to get back to doing but I need a changes in my bike.

What I have is an older Trek 310 that I purchased back in the 1980's and it is uncomfortable. I have never been a speed racer and need a wider seat and higher handlebars so I am not crunched over in racer style.

I used to ride three to four times a week regular and 20 miles a ride was not uncommon and I had a few that were 40 mile plus rides but today I figure 5 miles a day is good.

I will take my Trek in to see if the can change the seat and put different handle bars on it. Don't really need or want a new bike.

I love hearing these stories, especially how being fit before illness strikes is so beneficial.

"...She decided to fundraise with the gruelling cycling trips and despite suffering her own bout of ill health earlier this year is determined to complete the Brazilian ride which starts at the end of the month.
She said: “I know that being fit helped with my own health problems this year, had I not been so fit I was told I could have had a stroke..."
