A doctor or nurse. I do not know how they do it. I'd tell all the whiney people to shut up and Viking up. Yet, with animals, I have the patience of a saint. You figure. Good thing we are all different.
Several men in my mother's side and generation of her family were coal miners. They had a constant fear of cave-ins, explosions, and accidents. Two of them ended up with black lung disease. There are probably worse jobs, but I can't think of them.
I understand. My grandfather was a coal minor and survived 3 cave-ins and eventually died of black lung. His stories were horrific.
You're not the only one! Anything involving children would be an automatic 'no go' for me. I practically hid in the bathroom during pediatrics rotation in RN school (and then got assigned to a 19-year-old placed in pediatrics). I have worked with teenagers and that's not as bad, but little kids or babies, forget it.
My actual nightmare job was working in the onion ring room of a frozen food factory.
Any job where I was more or less tied to my desk all day, or having to stand in one spot more or less all day as in being a cashier or something like that.
My job now fits me perfectly. I sit at my desk about a total of two hours a day, but it's in 15 or 20 minute increments, and there are 5 or 6 hours a day when I'm either in the office and moving around, or out of the office and on the move.
If I had to sit at a desk all day and do whatever people are chained to their desk to do these days....I'd go crazy, and go home with a back ache ever day, that I know for sure.
This subject just came up when I was on a walk with my wife a couple hours ago after work. I have a meeting tomorrow when I'll be sitting about 4 hours with only a few 5 or 10 minute breaks....pure torture for me. Even is if those presenting are interesting, I'll most likely be either squirming in my chair, or standing at the back or side of the room a few times. I just can't sit that long comfortably.
@ jasper1372 : your commentary goes a long way to show how people are so extremely different, take me, for instance, I sit at my desk from 9 to 5 with half an hour pause at midday every week everyday of the week (not for long though, I'll retire early next year), and I'm perfectly happy with that situation (my boss even provided me with a special ergonomic armchair in order not to have back and neck pain)...right now when I'm typing these words I'm in even my cubicle, freer than many (because it's in the head that this feeling of freedom resides)
