As I have gotten older I plan ahead to accomplish something special. Terrified of the water all of my life, I learned to swim just before my 50th birthday. The summer after I turned 50 I learned to windsurf.

Afraid of heights all of my life, this year two days before I turned 69 I had my first indoor rock climbing lesson. The very first climb I overcame my fear of heights! I can now stand out on a balcony without a death grip on the railing.

Not sure yet what I want to do in a few months when I turn 70.

The last few years I've taken to buying myself gifts...and sometimes I don't even wait until my birthday to open them!

My birthdays are celebrated like they have been most of my life. Ignored by family and friends, sitting alone.
