We went out to breakfast, where my OH asked the waitress about birthday "gifts" from the restaurant. Apparently another diner overheard, and while my breakfast was going to be free, the other diner paid our remain tab for us!
I'm waiting for a friend to come up from the city for a fun day.
I got a magazine with a friend's published article in it in the mail.
I also got a state school tax rebate Check in the mail, money in the mailbox is a great thing! On my birthday no less!
My OH has a yet to be known small gift for me I guess, I don't get to know until later today after my OH is out of work. Good things can come in small packages!
My father usually greased my birthday palm too. He called to wish me a happy birthday while we were out to breakfast. I will see him tomorrow.
Never have. Even as a child I thought it was kind of a weird custom although I enjoyed the gratuitous cake and ice cream. After age 10 it just seemed like "Why are we doing this?"
As an adult when friends threw me a little affair I just appreciated it in the spirit in wish it was intended, but I don't see turning 25 or 33 or 49, or 60 etc as something to "celebrate".
While I don't object to those who appreciate a lot of fuss on their birthdays, I am definitely not one of them. Wish me a happy birthday, and we're good.
I celebrate my birthday, lol some times for the entire week. so let me just say that my husband, baby brother, best friend and cousin all died before hitting 55.
So yep, every year I'm granted another day on good ole planet earth, is enough for me to celebrate.
Now for me it usually means going out to dinner for a great meal. when my kids were growing up like so many parents we kinda concentrated on them so not really a lot of time or money left over for the adults.
My girlfriend is having her 55 birthday in New Orleans, can't wait to go.
I'm thinking of celebrating my next year at WDW. I don't expect anyone to throw me a party or pay. in fact I'll probably spring for a room or two and invited some friends down.
Some times I go really small though. a good steak on the grill and some great wine with a cake.
Keep on celebrating Op especially as we get older.
There was one disappointment, however. I always order a special book to open on the big day. Unfortunately, I received the book a week late although I allowed plenty of time. It is a great book so that does make up for it.
For at least the past 30+ years we have celebrated our birthdays with a trip somewhere new and exciting. Though some years when we worked and one or both of us could not get away, new and exciting was a luxury B&B within commuting distance.
My spouse's and my birthdays are on consecutive days.
