I get to keep the health insurance deal I have now. I have to pay about 1/3 the cost of it out of my annuity check. Every year we pay more and get less from it, but I consider myself one of the fortunate ones.
I don't know the answer to your question. I'm eligible to retire in 2009 and always thought I'd do so, but the cost of health care may make my retirement impossible.
After reading so many post on health insurance, I count my blessings. My husband has a great retirement program they pay 100% of the premium for medical and we chip in $100.00 month for dental, vision and audio. We are hoping all will work out as we only have 73 days left to go. WOW WOW WOW WOW, yes I am loving the idea.
I can stay on the same company provided "PPO" medical plan that I currently have at approximately the same monthly cost, which is quite low for me (about $50). I don't count the days or months, even though I will qualify for retirement in a bit over 2 years. I am not in a big rush to walk away from a well paying, interesting and comfortable job where I have nobody working for me. I'll have to see how general economic conditions are doing in a couple of years. I am concerned about inflation. Even several million $$ today won't seem like all that much in another 10 to 15 years at the rate things are going lately. Haven't been so concerned about inflation since the late 70s and early 80s as I am right now.
I get the same plan I have now;if I ddn't I would most like keep working until 65 like our parents did.Inflation will always be a problem. That needs to be considered when planning retirement.I think the big change over the last 30 years is that people realised that retirement is something that has to be planned 30 years in advance.i talk to alot more young people that start planning for college for their kids in their early twenties and for retirement.I started in 1973.
We are self insured - family of 4 - we pay $488 a month - $5000 deductible - this is with Blue Cross. So far, so good. Since our medical runs about $1000 per year, this is a good thing for our family.
