I happily embrace geezer and codger, although as a female people sometimes look at me strangely when I refer to myself as such.
I do not want to be a 'perennial', as if the other alternative is to be an annual. What does that make young people? Evergreens?
It doesn't matter what you use, there will be those who will find a reason to be offended by it. I just use "old fart". It worked for me when I was younger and it works for me now that I am one.

It's not just against the guidelines, it's against the law. City-Data would be in violation of copy write law if it allowed the full article to be reprinted (or posted, more accurately) on its site.

It's not always about being offended though, it's about how a word can be used to stereotype and define people of a particular age and how that stereotype impacts how you are treated within the medical profession, your job opportunities , by insurance companies etc.
I guess it's the context too. I don't like being defined as old by society just because of my age, however if my best friend and I are trying to get up off the floor at yoga like a pair or drunken old farts because we are out of shape and stiff I am not going to get my knickers in a twist.
Well I think the geriatrician was being kind of condescending but Kuhn was also being kind of rude.
That having been said, I am not crazy about the term “perennial” as a title for old people mostly because I think it sounds weird. I despise the term “baby boomer.” Anything else is okay by me.
Thing is, something is always going to offend or annoy someone. There is no one term that is going to make everyone happy. Actually I don’t see what’s wrong with the words “old people.” We’re old and we’re people. No one seems to mind being called “young people” when they are young so why is it so terrible for people who are old to be called “old people” when they become old?
Isn’t that like saying there is something wrong with becoming old?
