I was looking on another thread where someone was praising that area and it sounds intriguing. I also followed the little yellow Google man around on the streetview map when I was in my Georgia O'Keefe phase and wanted to see the area she had lived and painted. So yeah, sounds nice. But for me, coming from the forest in the northeast, I imagine it would be quite an adjustment living in the desert. I know that just driving through, it wasn't my favorite. I haven't spent any considerable amount of time there, though.

Don't forget, the people where you retire to should think and do everything exactly like the place you're from.

And it has to be super cheap, but in a very nice neighborhood with no crime.

And there can be no HOA's, but you want to be able to dictate what others do with their homes and yards, and someone should take care of all the maintenance for free.

While you're roaming in the van, keep an eye for someplace to go off the grid and/or an abandoned remote house where you can squat and be prepared to either get caught by the owners or defend "your home" from someone else who wants to squat there--------

Great ideas! Why on earth didn't I think of that and make it part of my criteria!!
