My neighbor's a service writer at a local dealership. He says the dealer pays retirees to pick up and deliver customer cars locally. Supposedly decent pay and a great source of income.
My cousin worked at a Ferrari dealership in Atlanta. He would fly up/down the coast, pick up the customer's Ferrari, and drive it to Atlanta for service. Then he'd drive it back and fly home.
That would be cool income as a retiree, I would imagine.
Do car dealerships offer opportunities for seniors to transport cars around regions or the entire country?
I am far from retired, but it is something that appeals to me. Does anyone here do that or have they done it in the past?
How could a senior with a good driving record take advantage of an opportunity like this?
I've never done it, but know those who have. It's an on call kind of thing. Of course you don't have to accept, but turn them down enough, and they won't call you anymore. Similar to substitute teaching in that regard. Sort of an inflexible flexible job. Rather be a Uber driver where you choose your schedule without repercussions.

And make $5 per hour after expenses and taxes ...
You will do better in the dealership.

There are several other opportunities:
1) Rental car companies need vehicles moved between branches.
2) Auto auctions need cars picked up and delivered to the auctions
3) Non-emergency medical transportation (vayo.com)
My step father did this for several years after retirement for something to do. He stayed in MN during the summer and then in AZ during the winter - he really liked it. I don't know what he made.

Our Porsche dealer sends a Flatbed......don't need to put miles on the car.
I've seen retirees driving the service van to shuttle customers who have dropped off their cars for service.
But I think that would be a boring, low paying job. You can do better.
If you are retired and you want to make some money, your best bet is to contact your previous employer and tell them you would be willing to work part time. Your skill set that you developed while working will make you a good fit for meeting peak demand.
I did that and the 20 hours per week part time job is very easy for me and a lot of fun. It also pays way more than minimum wage.
I don't think the OP is looking for part time work in his old field, or even to work into retirement with his own car.
He wants to drive somebody else's brand new car, and who could blame him!
