I think there is a genetic factor that we've yet to analyze thoroughly. We recently had an aunt of DH pass away at 91. She smoked most of her life, not heavily just sort of randomly, but never got lung cancer. She never did any formal exercise although she was always thin. On the other hand DH's mother (her sister) died of lung cancer from smoking in her mid-40s. So even closely related people can vary greatly.

One thing that seems to extend life greatly for people in certain cultures is yogurt eating. Sounds like an easy fix, but I have trouble digesting milk products!

Kefir is better than yogurt, if you are concerned about the longevity aspects.
