You lose height as your spinal disks compress and become less elastic. My Dad was 6' 1" at his peak, and was 5' 10" when he died at 86. He had an older brother who shrank from 5' 9" to under 5' 7". I've lost about an inch, from 6' to 5' 11"

From my last measurement at the Dr, I seem to have also lost an inch in height.

How much have you lost?
At age 19 I was exactly 5'-11+3/4". At 71 I walk at a tilt and on the Doctor's scale I just barely make it to 5'8". In my younger years I worked at physically demanding work with lots of very heavy lifting (beef packing/lugger). A few years driving trucks and loading unloading cargo also took a toll.

I can accept a worn out body. I just hope I can make it to the end with my mind intact. I am looking forward to the new body GOD has promised in the next life.

I've lost 2" and I didn't really have it to lose 5'7" to 5'5".

So now when they tell me my BMI is too high I just tell them I am under tall.

I have osteo and DDD also and have lost 3 inches already. I expect to lose more because my Mom lost a whole lot more and we ended up calling her "The incredible shrinking woman." It never seemed to bother her but she was definitely humped in back as time went on. But then, she never had menopause hrt and I did. So maybe I won't get any shorter, hopefully.

5 5 all my life up until 60something, and now at 79 I come in at 5 2 or so. DDD is listed on MRI's.

My mind is what I want to keep on working to my end.

My mom was hunched over and so were all the ladies of her generation, but they had no hormone replacements and my back is straight and I'm thankful to DHEA for my hormone support.

I am 69 and have not lost height. 5'3"

I never grew as tall as either of my parents, but I distinctly remember one time going to my parents house when they were near 80 and finally could look eye-to-eye with my mother. She had shrunk, had a bit of a humped back, and was told by her doctor she had (or had had) small fractures in her vertebrae.

Recently I went to an HOA meeting (almost all of my neighbors are elderly) and noticed how bent over so many of them are. Made me sit up very straight.

I lost apx an inch, then had an L3,4,5 spinal fusion and the disks replaced with those metal mesh, brillo soap pad looking things. After that, I gained an inch in height ! It was really strange, suddenly seeing the world with a different perspective, regardless of whether I was wearing high heels or not.
