Yes, I miss working. I retired three times because I missed it. I did floorcovering for 43 years and every day was a new challenge with new customers. I would still be working if not for health problems.
The only job I ever had that I miss was teaching English as a foreign language. On my days off, I looked forward to getting back to my classroom, and it was only two hours a day. But no, I never miss the freedom of getting up every day with nothing that I need to do that day.
I use a crock pot now much more than my wok as I prefer to leave the house for errands, and come home to..
Uh, did you say working, like going to work.. for money?.. commuting ?.. in the snow and rain? with a stomach flu? .. and going to 4 hour meetings that accomplished nothing except keeping me late to get my WORK DONE??!
Then being awakened in the middle of the night to solve a production problem caused by some idiot who didn't test his work sufficiently? Then going in to work the next day as if nothing happened?
And being hassled every year to give part of my hard-earned (albeit substantial) salary to United Way?
I am pretty sure that working has allowed me to hide from the deficiencies in my non-work life, then again, working night shifts has exacerbated those deficiencies, so it's sort of circular.I will not miss work but I will not have it to hide behind as a reason for my... quiet... social life.

But you've built quite a reputation for yourself here on C-D, judging by the numbers.
Shortly, (very shortly), after moving into my "active 55+" community, a fairly attractive lady my age sunk her claws into me. She is a nice lady and all, but had worked as a truck driver in the construction trades and never went to college. It didn't take long to see the mismatch between us. Besides, she wants a "boyfriend". At this time in my life, I just want a "friend".
A little off-topic, but that reminds me of what happened to my ex-father-inlaw in the “over-55” community that he & my MIL moved to. My MIL was very ill & did pass, but while she was still in a coma in the ICU, with a chance of recovery, the neighboring widows & divorcees were bringing casseroles & cakes & batting their eyelashes at my FIL. He was a wonderful guy, but geeze...kinda obvious, ladies.
Yes, I do. I enjoyed my trade for 30+ years. It allowed me to think critically and creatively. I still have a few odd, consulting jobs. What I need to do is to be more broad-minded about the new choices right in front of me in retirement.
