Let's say we get back to the topic, just for the heck of it.
The mornings lately have been cool. I wasn't expecting that & tend to wear sweatshirts & warm pants. Afternoon's are wonderful.
I still haven't put on the heat. I probably won't as I kept the heat at 62-65 in Minnesota. Sure glad I didn't get rid of all my Minnesota clothes!
There's one woman here that just wears tee shirts morning & evening. I sometimes feel as if I'm way overdressed when I see her. I jokingly said one time that I felt silly when I was wearing warmer clothes & she explained that she came from Alaska & it felt great to her here.
I'm looking forward to warmer weather in the mornings. Not that I'm complaining one bit but it will be interesting to feel the sun early in the year.
One thing that does surprise me is the lack of dry skin. I thought I'd be slathering lotion on all the time but that is not the case. I used more lotion in the winter in Minnesota due to the heat being on all the time.
As I've aged, I became conscious of the fact that the maternal side of the family has the susceptibility-towards-cancer dna, that whole side (of my maternal 2nd-3rd cousins) develop it a lot as time passes & one of my few first cousins passed from it in her 50's; my mother has survived 2 different types. So while AZ holds some interest to me, & I will make a maiden visit to Phoenix/Tucson/Flagstaff probably this year, I think the relentless summer heat + the potential liability for melanoma will nix a relocation, but who knows, never say never... I have a complexion designed for foggy & misty Northern European climes.
Also recently I had a CT scan that confirmed an earlier misdiagnosis about past heart damage, but that good news was leavened by a "... but the scan showed nodes on your lungs..." Google says that that is typically 95% benign, so I'm going with those odds until the next scan. I stopped smoking 18 years ago, & probably smoked on & off just less than 50% of the 30 years previous & hoped all was well by now in the lung recovery business. What's done is done & I'm heartened by the fact that I have no inclination to smoke again, stopping was difficult.
Given you have a greater than most risk, I'd also check into the normal medical care in a state, and how readily available it is. How many specialists are available and how are they rated. If they come up poor on the rating maybe it should be as much a nix and sun exposure.
I just got medicare last year, and am glad. The state I live in is woefully served, but as medicare had requirements, its much better than the rest. My check was on the low end, but still 20 dollars more than the state standard for medicade. Since, I know I have coverage, just a lot of complicated stuff to set it up. But then came my finger. My post medicare bad cut on my finger (never slice things with a large shape knive. Really really bad idea) cost me 30 dollars and a thumb with some really wierd sensations. With my preexisting conditions its long been a complex mess but now I can see a doctor if I need.

So far I'm still liking Arizona!
You don't even need the heat at night? Ours doesn't come on during the day, unless it is really cold and cloudy, but we need it at night. This morning when I got up it was only 28 degrees. Brrrr!
My hands kind of look like lizard skin, haha! I wash them quite a bit at work and then I just can't seem to remember to put on lotion. Plus, it is hard to work at a computer with goopy hands.

I'm in cold country and find my hands get chapped if I wash too often.
My other comment is on lotion and computers. I once worked with a woman who was always using hand lotion. Didn't take long for the letters on the keyboard to begin disappearing. The lotion just wiped them clean.

Nope. I've always slept better with warm blankets & pajamas. Used to turn the heat way down at night. Feels like snuggling to me.

SV is at 4633' so that cools things down. Wikipedia says the hi/lo for January is 61/34 so cool in the morning until the sun warms things up. Is it windy or less windy than what you experienced in Minnesota?
The good news is that the altitude and its cooling effect will be your friend in the summer. Please update your impressions while going through the summer.
It is less windy. I am surprised at the cold morning & evenings. In fact, it's downright cold, which shocked me. Still haven't worn my winter coat though. There have been windy days & they've surprised me.
The afternoons are very pleasant.
It will be interesting to see how the heat affects me. I did bring all my warm weather clothes, which will be helpful when it happens.
It's all still new enough that, even with the cold mornings, still is SO much better than Minnesota weather.
I think the apartments here must be well enough insulated that the weather doesn't affect them as much as it could. The cold doesn't penetrate although I am going to ask about caulking the bedroom window, where the cold does come in at night. In Minnesota we caulk around every opening to stop the cold. Right now I put towels on the ledge.
I notice though, even when it was hot in September, I normally only used fans. Only had the air on a couple of times.
It will be interesting to see what summer brings. And how my body will react. We do have a pool here & I'll probably take advantage of that on really hot days.
While visiting during a June heatwave, I considered myself adaptable to heat and assumed I wouldn't have any problems. I was wrong and I found that a dip in the pool after we came back from being out and about was necessary to lower my body temperatures, and keep me, at least, from feeling ill.
After we move, if there isn't a pool, we'll be adding a dipping pool for just that reason!

Me too! I never run the heat at night. My bed is like a cozy 'nest'. It's pretty chilly in the mornings but I usually wake up, turn the heat on and jump back into bed for a while. In summer I don't run the AC at night either but my ceiling fans keep it comfortable. My house temp stays right around 68-70 most of the time but 70 is 'chilly' to me. I just wear sweats to stay warm.
I think you will either LOVE or HATE the Monsoons!! DW and I are severe weather people, so we LOVED them. When we lived in Tucson, we used to sit out under a covered porch, and have a glass of wine while watching the lightning and rain. It was an amazing season, but could be a bit humid though; I remember it could be 12pm and 80F-90F on some August nights. We also lived above a wash, near a bridge where the flash floods used to first appear. News would report a strong storm, and the bridge would fill up with TV crews and hundreds of people just waiting for the wall of water to appear. Amazing to watch. I video-taped those events (remember video tape recorders?? LOL), and love to revisit our times there. It it weren't for work, we would have really enjoyed that area more.
Enjoy AZ- lots of adventures to come your way!!
