Pat Benatar - "Hit me with your best shot , fire away."

When I was a kid I always that she said "Hit me with your best shot, Father Ruiz" (z is silent)

I had a friend whose last name was Ruiz so that's probably why I heard that. Never questioned why Pat would be singing about my friends dad though. Seemed logical to an 8 year old.

I just fell on the floor laughing! Haven't thought of this in years but I had a friend back then who sang "plus you laid a great big far-ar-art".

Went to see Junior Brown, last summer, he ends it singing "Secret AGING Man". Hard to believe he is over 65 and still plays that guit-steel like a demon.

There was an illustrated book on this about 20 years back, "'scuse me while I kiss this guy." pretty funny illustrations, too. One of the more recent is from the song "blank space," by Taylor Swift. The line "got a long list of ex lovers ..." but sounds like "all the lonely Starbucks lovers." she even played along by tweeting Happy Valentines Day to all the Starbucks lovers, even though that's not the real lyric. My favorite Mondegreen is, "Sweet dreams are made of cheese."

Don McLean
Waters of Babylon

Lyric is "we remember thee Zion" and "we lay down and wept for thee Zion"

I spent hours months years trying to figure that out best i could come up with was "we remember these ion" or "these eye on" and "we lay down and wept for these our young"

I did not even learn the word Zion until I was nearly 50.

I always thought it was Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds.

Winter Wonderland. I heard: "Later on we'll perspire as we sit by the fire."

It is actually "conspire."

The refrain sounds like Ba Ba Ba, Baba Baran.

I remember hearing "great big car," too.

How about La Bamba? The lyrics are:

Para bailar La Bamba
Para bailar La Bamba

But all I heard was something like: Ba la ba la ba la bamba.

Steely Dan:
"Are you ringing in the ears,
throwing away the time,
Are you gathering up the cheese,
have you have enough wine?"

I thought it was a song about getting loaded at a wine and cheese party.

And how about that psychedelic classic from the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's:
"The girl with colitis goes by."

Speaking of cars, I thought that Tracy Chapman was singing "You got a bada$$ car" but later learned it is, of course, "You got a fa-ast car." (I figured it out once I learned name of the song is FAST CAR!"

Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

"I saw your back, from outer space"

When it actually was:

"And so you're back, from outer space"
