There is/was this song in a Cal Worthington commercial about his car dealership - tons of people, instead of hearing "go see Cal" heard "p**sy cow." There even is a FB page dedicated to this mondegreen.

The tv show "Secret Agent." The theme song was a hit. Great song.

But it sounded like this:

Secret...Asian Man. Secret....Asian Man.

The real words were, of course:

Secret Agent Man...Secret Agent Man.

Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson
I thought they were singing, "Let's take that rosy forest and sing a chorus or two." It's actually "Let's take that road before us." A "rosy forest" would be one that's on fire.

Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones
I thought Mick was singing "The war will ugly seagulls turn the people blue/I could not foresee this thing happening to you." It's really "No more will our green sea go turn a deeper blue."

California Dreamin' by the Mamas and the Papas:
I thought they were singing "Well, I got down on my knees, and I began to pray." It's really "I pretend to pray." Changes the entire meaning of the song.

Working in a Coal Mineby Lee Dorsey
I thought he was singing, "Working in a coal mine/Going down, down, down/Working in a coal mine/Oops! About the fifth down." It's really "About to slip down." Later in the song, I thought I heard "Hauling coal by the jug" instead of "by the ton." That would be a really slow way to mine coal!

Bend Me, Shape Me by the Foundations
I thought it was "Bend Me, Shake Me."

Twelve Thirty by the Mamas and the Papas
I thought "I can no longer keep my blinds drawn" was "I can no longer keep my flies crossed."
I like yours better, too.

In the song “Personality” from the 50’s. There’s a line that goes “plus you’ve got a great big heart.”

I once saw the lryics printed as, “Plus you’ve got a great big car.”

Well I guess that’s appealing too.

Default Drift Away Away by Dobie Gray

I know someone who thought it was "Gimme the Beach Boys and free my soul..."

When I was a kid, about 7 or 8, and the well meaning members of the French side of my family, were trying to ensure that although I lived in London, I always had my heart firmly grounded in La République, they’d keep repeatedly singing, and encouraging me to repeat, the words of La Marseillaise.
The opening lines are, “Allons enfants de la patrie”, (let us go, children of the Fatherland).
I knew that enfants was children, and for the longest time I thought that it was, “Alan’s children of the Fatherland!”
My old dad always irreverent, would sing Little Anthony’s “Tears on my pillow” from Grease, but to his own lyrics, “There’s tears on my pillow, but the rest of the bed’s quite dry.”

Me too. I did until just now, lol. Yes! You made me look - "Gimme the beat boys..."

I also thought it was..."I'm cold in iron chains lying naked on the floor", instead of, "I'm cold and I am shamed...". Torn, Natalie Imbruglia.

Pearl Jam-Yellow Ledbetter. Basically the entire song sounds like Eddie Vedder has a mouth full of crackers.

Such a funny thread. I really thought a lot of them were just as written here. Anyone remember the song where the female sings “Big Boys don’t cry!” No matter how hard I try to hear it correctly, I always hear “Be poised and quiet”.
