I know mine is confusing but I have a living ex of a 10 year marriage and a deceased husband from my
last marriage. So divorced and widowed.

Survivor benefits have different rules. But you can no longer choose between letting your own grow and taking spousal from a living ex . You lost that ability . You can only choose between your own and survivor.

If you choose your own you can still get a spousal adder from a living ex if 1/2 their full is more than your full but you can't take just spousal and leave yours to grow. You can only do that with survivor benefits.
