It's not just women that choose to do that.

OP, may you never be faced with having to make that decision yourself.

In any event, it is their choice and their business and harms no one. Leave them alone to do what they think is best for them.

It's not only women. My dad continued to where his wedding ring until the day has died even though he was in a live-in relationship with another woman and mom had been gone 10 years. My parents were married almost 52 years before mom died and I don't think it ever would have occured to dad to take off the ring because in his heart, he was still married to her.

Why does it matter if someone wears a ring, or even none at all during a marriage? It is all personal choice. I have been married 33 years now. This past year I stopped wearing my beloved small antique wedding set when my dear MIL passed away and left me her fabulous diamond solitaire ring. I now wear that as my wedding ring, and it is NEVER, ever coming off my finger!

I think of it as a "no-pest strip." Plus I have gained weight and probably couldn't get it off if I wanted to, which I don't. It has been part of my life since I was 24. I can't see ever getting married again. Maybe meet someone, but not marriage.

I have been widowed 6 years and 3 months. I have no desire to marry again. I wore my wedding rings for 4 years but took them off hoping it would help my grieving. It did, that and praying. Now I don't wear any ring on that finger. I still consider myself married. Maybe to a ghost but in my heart he is still my husband.

Rings or no rings. It is up to the individual and nobody else's business.

"No- pest strip"!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

"No-pest strip"! That's great.

I'm divorced, and I still occasionally wear my gold wedding band when I go out in the evening. It's just a precaution.

Do younger widows take their rings off?

There was a many pages thread here awhile ago, I forgot the title, where the great majority of widowed retired women don't want to remarry.

Some love never ends just because your partner dies. Pure and simple.
