I heard Rock Hill is a good area seemed a little bit too expensive for me and Ft. Mill. I'm looking still too.

We also have multiple friends retiring to Greenville and surrounding areas. Different wants for each, a few rural and a few suburban.

They are fleeing the Charleston area because of rising home prices, traffic and growth!

If you retired in South Carolina tell me what’s good about your town. Thanks
Check out Clover in York County. It's a beautiful and very safe mostly rural area roughly 30 minutes from the airport in Charlotte, as well as some quality health care options which should probably be a concern. Clover has a great little historic downtown with shops and restaurants as well.

Thank you so much for your recommendations....this area definitely looks like it fits the bill. We’ll be visiting later this year.

During our brief visit to Calabash NC to visit my brother, he mentioned Little River and North Myrtle Beach SC as areas to scope out, and my understanding is that SC is easier on SS and Pensions than NC.

Greenville is one of my favorite cities in the country. You can go out off of US 25 or 276. I'd start in Traveler's Rest and start going north toward Marietta. Property prices will become more reasonable, but it's still easy access to Greenville.

I relocated to Lexington (Columbia) in 2012 and prior to that I was in Mount Pleasant (Charleston) 2002 to 2012 so I know these two areas quite well. While both are metropolitan areas in the SC sense, they are not that large nor busy yet they offer all the advantages of a metro area. Go 20 miles outside either city and it becomes quite rural.

Take a look at John's Island or James Island. Should fulfill your requirements.
