Social Security Disability is not the problem. If you had the same Labor Force Participation Rate and the same Employment-to-Population Ratio now as you did before the Great Recession, you'd have an additional 11.3 Million workers working and paying FICA and HI (Medicare) payroll taxes.

Neither Social Security nor Medicare would not have any financial issues if that were the case.

oh yes it is a problem we just diverted billions from ss retirement to ssdi where abuse , misuse and fraudulent claims drained it . last year over one hundred people both inside ss and associated with it were busted here in ny in a ssdi fraud racket . one man eric conn in kentucky was responsible for procuring at least 1/2 billion in fraudulent ssdi claims alone .

Recently, the Government Accountability Office uncovered $1.3 billion in overpayments and CBS’s 60 Minutes featured the beleaguered SSDI program—identifying parts of the country where 10-15 percent of the population is on the government program.

we will see the reallocation of roughly $150 billion from the Social Security Trust Fund in order to rescue the nearly bankrupt SSDI Trust Fund

ssdi claims have become the new unemployment insurance . so yeah i would say ssdi is a huge weight around ss retirement's legs . it should be moved over to welfare
