^^^ This. There are lots of older people in my area participating in political events or causes they feel passionate about.

My wife died one year ago today. I'm not looking for a replacement, but there are a few opportunities to connect with people of similar inerests that the OP did not mention:

Churches
Snowmobile Club
ATV Club
Lots of other clubs.
Political groups
Service groups
Town committees
Part time work
Volunteer work

I have done all of the above as did my wife over the years.

^^^^^^ Very sorry for your loss.

Those are great suggestions, thank you!

A lot of good, interesting suggestions.

I may try that large church thing. There are a few of them around here.

Never hear about people playing pickle-ball, but that doesn't mean they are out there.

SportyandMisty: I'm a low income woman living in central NY. Traveling to those places you mention for skiing, etc. not going to happen. And by the way, I'm 76 with a total knee replacement. I associate skiing with falling and I do my best to avoid that.

68. Separated again (caregiving duties and downsizing moves). Talked to my old neighbors, and athletic club friends that I was looking for a date to see a play. All they could is roll their eyes. I said, it's platonic. Currently living in a shared house with 2 girls in their early 20's (?), a recent divorce guy (56) who is into concordances (no idea) and a late 30's guy.

Go hang out in the hardware section of Home Depot and ask a couple men to help you find a thingy for your home project. There are tons of men your age in the home improvement stores here. They have nothing else to do except browse in the aisles.

At her age, there is no "vast majority of men." Most of them are dead or debilitated. Life is not kind to old men.
