This subject has come up in a hundred different ways through the past ten years here, it always evokes a lot of advice but hardly anyone wants to admit the fact that retirement is not a one way street, complete with directions to proceed to Nirvana. Very few ever put so much thought into their earlier lives and what they "wanted" to do as opposed to what they had to do. Retirement is much the same life as one's working life with the exception that we no longer live on a work regimen.

How one approaches retirement will depend on so many variables that there can be no "one way" which will fit everyone. Some are bound to be bored, others will find that they now have less time to do things than they thought, and still others will go back to work for whatever reason, Jump into the retirement pool with as much gusto as you can--and then decide what is the best course for YOU..

I hated my job and everyone knew it, the only reason I stayed was for the benefits (The pay would be the same as I would receive on SS).
Getting up everyday and going into work was a chore and I had to force myself to do it, it created a lot of stress and anxiety so I was never really happy (was actually miserable) when I was there.
It was getting to the point that the stress/anxiety/aggravation/constantly being miserable was not worth working/keeping my job just for benefits.

Ironically on my 63rd birthday (Aug. 10) I went to work and all morning they kept pushing my buttons, by about 11 in the morning I had had enough and after a few choice words walked out and headed straight into retirement.

Within a couple of weeks I had moved out of my apartment of 32 years, disposed of about 80% of my material possessions and moved in with my Son and Daughter In Law, something we had been discussing for some time.
I am now with my three of my six Grandchildren and watch my 4 year old Granddaughter every day and once again "Life Is But A Dream".
