They say old people eat earlier and earlier. True?

I don't eat "meals". I eat small amounts of food five or six times a day, from roughly 10 a.m. ("breakfast") until 1 a.m. (just before bed.) That's the only regimen that my fussy irritable gut will tolerate. That became the norm about six years ago.

When I first retired (before the health issues started) I switched from 3 meals a day to "grazing", i.e., eating whenever I felt hungry and whatever I felt like eating. Sometimes I'd eat a bowl of steamed broccoli and some fresh bread. Other times I'd feel like having a hummus sandwich (don't knock it till you've tried it) followed by a piece of chocolate cake. No set time of day, it would depend on what I was doing at any given time and my mood, and also how long ago I'd last eaten. I loved being free of the tyranny of set mealtimes! I also hate to cook, LOL

I suffer from acid reflux. My gastroenterologist told me that 95% of reflux cases could be cured by not lying down within three hours after eating. So if I want to go to bed at 9:00, I have to be sure to have dinner no later than 6:00.

I don't eat lunch, so I have a meal between 3 and 4 PM which is my last meal of the day (so I guess it's dinner).

I eat when I'm hungry. If it's 3pm or 5pm or 9pm. Or all three. Or 2:47am.

Wink Eating Early As We Age?

I am in my early 40s and actually prefer to eat dinner early because I can suffer from reflux from time to time. I am an early bird dinner person. My mother (75) lives with me and yes we eat early to avoid digestive issues and to get it out of the way. We try to have dinner between 3pm and 5pm.

I eat when I feel like making something to eat and that usually coincides with hunger.

"Breakfast" is usually between 10 and noon. I don't eat a lunch but by mid to late afternoon I may eat a yogurt or toast or bread with something on it like hummus or avocado. Or I may make a smoothie from something healthy. Sometimes I heat up a frozen burrito.

Supper may be at 6 or 7. There's no set schedule and I see no reason to eat early. I eat when I want to.
