A friend told me about this. I looked online but it seems to be a few insurance companies that offer it.
I need to make a plan for fitness during the colder months. I had my hip replaced recently and need to keep active but my discipline breaks down in colder months. Have people used this and, if so, what are your experiences?

My sister has used it for years, loves it. My insurance offers it, but I live in a rural area and would have to drive quite a ways to use it. If I lived in town, I definitely would use it though.

Love the Silver Sneakers. Most of the big Insurers offer it.....I know UHC and Humana both have it.

Our town has a gully equipped YMCA with all the Cardio you could ever want. They also have an Indoor Pool and a Sauna.....wonderful in the winter months. The Staff is very helpful.

I have participated off and on for years. I did it even before I was of the age that insurance paid for it. At my location, they also offer specially adapted yoga classes. I have enjoyed it, and you can't beat the price!

You could look for a walking club (or hiking). Some go to indoor malls in the winter. Or look for MeetUps in your area for people interested in exercising together.

But just wondering, if you are in NM, how cold does it get that you feel putting on a coat, hat and gloves is too much hassle to get yourself outdoors in the winter? I'm in VT now but I still walk the dog all winter, except for the coldest days when it gets below 20 degrees. We also go to the dog park in winter, until the snow builds up too much and the parking lot gets icy. I can't imagine NM is all that cold, especially in the middle of the day.

I was already a member of Planet Fitness- Black Card at $20/month so I could use them wherever it was convenient. I have UHC's Medicare supplement and they pay for the $10 membership. In my case, they pay $10 towards the Black Card membership, so I'm happy.

I enjoyed Silver Sneakers while it was offered by my Health Net Medigap. I used it frequently. In 2017 Health Net switched to Silver and Fit, which doesn't seem to have contracts with as many gyms as Silver Sneakers. I signed up at a gym more than a year ago, but never participated. I recently moved and haven't checked out the local gyms yet.
