Did your job decline as you got toward retirement? (move, retired, years)

My job has declined over the years. Technology is one factor. I have less to do because the software is so good. The other is I got old. I feel management thinks I am a dinosaur so they give jobs to young guys and let me sit. I wonder about a layoff, and when they will finally just get rid of us old folks. Did your job decline and if so when did you realize it was time to pull the plug and retire?
just the opposite . i morphed over time in to factory automation from an hvac tech .
i am retired but the field has such big demand that i teach motor controls and vfd's to newbees for my old company one day a week . it is now 3-1/2 years and i am still doing it .
My job got too stressful due to personnel changes that affected my programs. The planning for a project I'd spent half my time on for almost two years was taken over by a know-nothing from another industry who completely disregarded the advice of seasoned professionals and basically threw out our work and changed it into something else entirely that had been tried before and which had failed in the past. I became frustrated and, since I was already overworked and felt that mgmt wasn't listening, ... I made my point with my feet, and left.
Fortunately I'd been running the numbers on retirement and had already found where we would move to. It was just a couple years sooner than I'd planned.
Decline? No, other than micromanagement got worse and worse and I couldn't sit and eat a cheeseburger without some idiot recording me on his cell phone.
I don’t hold the same job for life, so I don’t think it declined. But I morphed into different job type as I age. Who knew I could work that many years after I deemed myself not doing critical job.
I worked in construction administration and management. As I aged, my job increased with my experience and knowledge. Not many younger folks want to negotiate contracts and modifications to contracts, as it does take some experience, so I always had something to do. I retired when I had enough as it was pretty stressful. I was retired about 3 months before I was contacted to come back to work on a part time basis to assist with a complicated hospital project. I declined and never looked back.
I'm within a year of retirement. My position and the workload have grown, but my interest in working has decreased. Makes it hard to meet the demands of the job when I'm having a hard time maintaining my motivation. Fortunately I have lots of autonomy so I can manage the workload on my own schedule. I'm going to work part-time after retirement but in an entirely different environment.
