"A Dutch "positivity trainer" has launched a legal battle to change his age and boost his dating prospects.
Emile Ratelband, 69, wants to shift his birthday from 11 March 1949 to 11 March 1969, comparing the change to identifying as being transgender.
"We live in a time when you can change your name and change your gender. Why can't I decide my own age?" he said."
That's a new idea on how to avoid discrimination and go after younger ladies.
"Mr Ratelband argues he feels discriminated against because of his age, and that it was affecting his employment chances and his success rate on the dating app, Tinder.
"When I'm 69, I am limited. If I'm 49, then I can buy a new house, drive a different car. I can take up more work," he said."
It's kinda like changing the "use by" date on a box of cereal.
Since I have gotten in much better shape and making plans around new active interests, I sometimes forget that I will be 60 before the end of the year when mentally considering future options. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. But trying to change my age? Nah. They say age is just a number, but that number is based on reality. What that number means is largely up to us. It's not up to us when unavoidable health/death interferes with our plans. That's true at any age but the odds of it happening increase as we age, like it or not. We can do things to bump the odds a bit more in our favor but there is a point of diminishing returns. I get not wanting to accept that. Lying to the world won't help IMO.
All he has to do is lie about his age. People have been doing it for years. But after looking at his picture....he's never going to pass for anything under 64. Sorry dude, you're kidding yourself.
I actually like the idea. I think he is right. People change their gender, their religion, their race, their name, their weight, their breast size, their hair color... Why shouldn't he be allowed to change his birth date and age?
For Pete's sake he is one desperate, fearful, and self-involved dude! Probably part of the reason he decided he had to tell others how to be positive. Struggling with his own demons. Your "age" is in your head regardless of the physical mileage.
I know an 18 year old who does not want to work. I think I will have him petition the court to change his age to 65 so he can collect social security.
OK, I did not even consider the legal implications of age changes in other directions or under other circumstances.
I would like to be charged as a minor...
He/she was well past the age of consent...
