Cure cancer, HIV, type 1 & type 2 diabetes, ALS..modern medicine & science is virtually stagnant in finding a cure for any of these diseases at this point, despite receiving more research funding than ever.
Cancer is not one disease, it's many diseases, so there isn't going to be one cure. And you would probably be shocked to find out how much money is being spent trying to find those cures. I have friends who are cancer researchers, and one is an executive, with a doctorate in molecular biology, of a smaller biotech firm that has some very promising immunotherapy drugs in the pipeline; they've spent MILLIONS of dollars and years developing them, but they're still in clinical trials, so the company hasn's made a dime off them yet. Depending on the results of the trials, they may or may not ever see a return on their investment, either.
The idea that people are being made to suffer with cancer to make money is a serious affront to all the hard-working scientists and medical professionals who are devoting their lives to finding cures for it.
Sorry. We will never cure cancer. At least not in the next 200 years. And cancer scientists agree. The focus now is on managing it and living with it.
If all the positive cancer breakthrough headlines are to be believed, then the cure for cancer is right around the corner. But that is a far cry from reality, says Dr. Jørgen Olsen, head of research at The Danish Cancer Society. “I think it’s an illusion to imagine that after millions of years of this disease we’ll suddenly find a solution. I don’t think that we’ll ever beat it, but I think that we’ll get it under control so that it becomes chronic but not deadly,” says Olsen.
Prominent cancer researcher, Mads Daugaard from the Molecular Pathology & Cell Imaging Laboratory at the University of British Colombia, Canada, agrees. “We won’t find a cure, but we’ll probably reach a point where we have so many ways to attack cancer that people won’t die from it anymore,” says Daugaard.
Bionic eyes.
So many problems happen to our eyes just from aging. By now they should have at least figured out a way to keep the lens flexible so it doesn't harden and destroy our ability to accommodate and focus. And a way to keep our vitreous from shrinking and turning to watery mush inside our eyes so we don't see spider webs forever, or it pulls our retinas off.
Fly coast-to-coast any faster than five hours, which is the same time it took 30 years ago?
I actually looked this up recently.....don't understand all the technical details, but something about anything faster would break the sound barrier and cause a sonic boom, which is apparently a problem....also the cost of fuel....remember how expensive those Concorde flights were. But anyway, it still seems like everything else has gotten faster, smaller, better, except this.
Getting to the moon could have been done by Copernicus, given the right data and a computer with 1/10 of the computing power of this laptop. Its a trivial math problem.
Most of the proposed tasks here would require changing the mindset of 7 billion people and throwing out virtually all the current dogma of economics. A few people have tried, and history has not treated them well.
Are you sure you're talking about, "Getting to the moon?"

Just read up on all the criticisms of the Concord, largely it's noise pollution in the dense urban areas it is flying into and out of and there is your main issue....along with as you noted, sufficient market size and $$$ to make it financially viable.
