I am doing the one meal a day...anything I feel like eating on a dinner plate. Going on two weeks. So, technically, I can eat what ever I want...during that meal once a day. Will be interesting. I do think a lot of us just eat too much and too often. There is a number of you tube videos about this. This sets me up nicely for the 4pm dinner specials!
I lost 6 lbs the first week, see what happens this week when I weigh Friday. Easiest thing to do that I have found to get rid of some fat. I drink zero calorie fluids during the day till I eat.
My gastritis will be helpful. Not something I recommend. Medication is working and it will pass, but not until after the holidays.
That's a heck of a way to have to do it. But the thoughts of paying the piper in spades in the event you overindulge makes it less likely you'll do it, I guess.

Hahaha. That's a great plan! Seriously, I am starting a stringent diet/exercise plan after I get back from my business trip in late January. It makes little sense to me to start one knowing I'm going to cheat during Christmas and my work involves eating nothing but carbs for two weeks because it's camping and the food can't be perishable. Meanwhile, portion control is simple. Plus after celebrating 40 something holiday seasons, it's hard to get excited about the same old, same old.
Even for sweets, I ordered lots of Xmas stuff for my husband recently, but we stick to the same practice, we can eat anything at lunch, but come dinner time, no sweet, just a nice apple or fruit for dessert. He eats steak or other meat with lots of vegetables. He rarely eats carbs at night, he finally realizes carbs turn into some form of sugar at night, especially with inactivity. He also doubling the hours of walking, some forms of exercise in the morning, and another hour of walking in the afternoon. This practice has served us well, we both don’t snore as much. Very quiet breathing, it allows both of us to sleep well. Sleep is important for our health. No strict diet is necessary.
I just deal with it on the days that I have to, then return to my usual eating patterns after the holidays. Right now I'm injured so I am pretty limited. Come January 1, my focus will be tunnel and I'm good to go. The time that I really want to be in peak form is summertime, and since I live in Texas, that starts around May so January-March is the best time to set a goal.
I'm not going to not enjoy myself on the holidays, screw that. besides weight management is for life and life isn't so structured all of the time.
As I've gotten older, the weight seems to pile on about twice as fast as it used to, and come-off about 3-4 times slower. My wife and I both (key) decided about a month prior to Thanksgiving, to take off some weight (cut out carbs and sugar). We lost about 10+ pounds each, but, at Thanksgiving, I decided to 'eat whatever I wanted'. She pretty much resisted. As a result, I put on about 8 pounds, of which I've again dropped 4-5; while She only put on about 2 pounds.
Christmas season is here and I'm avoiding the extra calories. Instead of eating what I want, I'm going to stay the course. The pleasure is too short -- and the added weight (belly) is simply too difficult to get rid of.
I don't think the holidays are the best time to worry about weight and dieting, at least not excessively so. Just enjoy yourself and enjoy the holidays. The holidays are meant to be a time of celebration. You can get back on the exercise and diet train starting on Jan 2!
