I even agreed to meet them at the US Attorney General's office in Washington DC with my criminal lawyer within 24 hours.
Or, I could just give them my credit card number and pay the "IRS bill" that way.
one called and started giving me the microsoft sales pitch. Told him I have a mac and he shifted to a mac sales pitch with no hesitation.
dang, they're good at being bad.
I had them call me to get control of my PC. So I trolled the guy for a bit and then told him I had an Apple computer. No problem he says and transfers me to the "Apple" tech. So I trolled that guy for a bit and told him I had a PC. No problem he say and transfers me back to the "Microsoft" tech. Well, I was sent back to the same guy, who cursed me out and hung up on me. For some reason they've never called me back!
We all get them constantly too. People fall for the tax department scam all the time. But people can be very gullible, as if the Australian Tax Office would demand back tax to be paid with iTunes vouchers etc. if I am ever in any doubt I say to just post me a letter about this. Which a government department would do if need be.
I actually feel a bit sorry for people with an Indian accent with genuine business. I almost hung up on a person who rang to inform me that my new glasses were ready for collection.
I had someone purporting to be from our Internal Revenue Service call saying I would be arrested if I didn't pay up immediately. I told the guy I was sick of my wife nagging me and to give me a few minutes to pack a suitcase and then come and get me, as I needed a break. I never did get that vacation from my wife.
You guys should do a YouTube search of "scamming the scammers." They're funnier-than-hell. Some of the scammers really become irate when they realize they're being played, threatening violence, sexual assaults on family members, etc.
What is something new is that they are using local area code phone numbers rather than toll free or weird area codes. Political parties are becoming as persistent. I just hang up and don't talk. I guess this is the price of being retired and answering the phone during the day. LOL
I don't answer any numbers I don't know. Especially since the scam where it they ask if this is so and so and you say yes, they then have your voice saying yes. I can't remember what happened with that one.
I cheered when I read they were finally jailing these people.
I put this in retirement because most of these scam calls were targeted towards older Americans. It looks like the Indian phone operators posing as Microsoft tech support, Medicare specialist, or other phony titles are finally being arraigned by the authorities. Has anyone had calls from these people?
Oh hell yeah.
I love the “Hello sir this is Bob. You called because you had a problem with your computer?”
My SIL actually gave one guy permission to remotely take over her laptop. I fixed it for her. Now she just hangs up on them.
My home phone landline is strictly for fax, security system communication and once in a while I call my wife. Other than that we dint even answer it
It's what I do, what all my adult kids do, and what I try to convince my in-laws and father to do.
My father is afraid it might be something important. I tell him the people who call him are in his contacts, so he will KNOW who they are when they call. If it's a number, you don't know them, and if it's important, they will leave a message. They never do.
