For any age, any gender:

The smell of a healthy person practicing good hygiene. Little or no perfumey smells, just some mild soap.

There was a time when some men smelled like they poured the entire bottle of cologne/after shave. And pity the person who had to go into an elevator with them.

I agree with a lot of people here who are saying, nothing like the smell of soap and good hygiene.

I'm on the "leave them all on the store shelf" side if the fence.

But --- if you MUST use something, please don't be one of those people who feels the need to marinate in the stuff. I used to work with someone who did that -- marinate in his aftershave or cologne. My workstation faced the window, thus my back was to the counter --- I always knew when he came up to the counter because I started sneezing---

I kind of like it when men wear A LITTLE BIT of cologne. Women too, for that matter.

My dad wore Old Spice every day, so now if I happen to smell that I immediately think of him. (Which is a good thing.)

If trying to meet pet owners, catnip around the ankles, beef jerky rubbed around the knees. Grabs 'em by the... pet.

I remember the days of working in movie theatres and coming home with the "eww du popcorn" all over me.

Afer smelling the neighbor's laundry day, sometimes I wonder about just using a splash of fabric softener. Some of that stuff could gag a horse.

Nothing beats the smell of oatmeal cookies.

Plus, you know that a guy who smells like cookies like to bake. That's always a good thing.

It's not just men who offend with strong, heavily used scents. I used to work with a woman whose perfume stayed in the office long after she left. It got to be a joke.
