Be aware that this is not a Medicare government site.
I got a snail mail from them today and they are actually eHealthInsurance Services, Inc. selling plans

Medicare.gov is the official Medicare site

Pretty crafty of them to register this domain name

Craftier than you might realize, actually.

.com domains get preferential treatment in search engine results. English translation: When you do a Google search for “Medicare”, Medicare.com is going to show up just as high if not higher than Medicare.gov.

I saw an ad on tv the other day talking about a "new Medicare product that you might not have heard of". Kept referring to it as a "Medicare product." Then when they get to all the fast talk at the end, they quickly mention "not affiliated with any government agency."

The .com did not even show up on the first page of my Google search. The first four items are ads for Medicare supplements and Advantage plans. The fifth item was medicare.gov, followed by three other medicare related .gov sites and then a couple of news articles about medicare.

No it doesn't. The real Medicare has all the top spots. Google is smarter than that.

And when the fake one (...com) shows up, it shows the link as ehealthmedicare, not Medicare.

Google's no fool.

Also, what djplourd said...

That Medicare.com site has been around for ages. I remember seeing it and warning my relatives about it years ago.

But it's good to post a warning here where many others can be made aware of it too. Perhaps you can also post a thread on the Medicare forum on C-D and include a warning in the title.
