And, more importantly, what kind of personal baggage do you carry that reflects your roots?

Texas for the most part. Father's side of the family is from Oklahoma.

Baggage? No, but heritage.

I consider myself lucky to have two feet planted in different ground. I was raised in the upper midwest, but my dad was from the south, I spent my summers in the south, and went to a deep south university in the 50s, So I can see myself as a Northerner and a Southerner. So old south culture resonates with me, and I like it..

Irish and German Europeans moved to the midwest for several generations and one early branch was from English and Dutch colonial settlements in Massachusetts and New York. No baggage to speak of and some of the old ideas were intentionally left behind. Family history is a repetitive story of dissenters, mostly religious dissenters (but not entirely) so that seems to be a tradition. We are part of a Northern/Midwestern culture much more than Southern. I live in the Southwest and miss some Midwestern food and baseball.

Ohio, going back to the 1700's (except for a grandmother who came to the U.S. in 1923). Not much "baggage", except for what I consider GOOD baggage, including a very strong work ethic and a belief in being polite, kind and considerate of others. (German, Scottish, English, French and Swiss heritage.)

I was born in Philadelphia and lived there until I was nine, then we went across the bridge into South Jersey (1965) and I have been here ever since, other than two Aunts/Uncles/Cousins that live elsewhere (Illinois and California) my entire family (Mom, Sister, Son, Daughter, Grandchildren) are all here in South Jersey.

My Grandfather (Mothers Dad) was born on a ship in the Atlantic Ocean when his family escaped from Russia in 1903.
They lived in Philadelphia and then moved to a "Farm House" in South Jersey in 1958, guess that is where the S.J roots come from.

My Dads family (who we have had no communication with since about 1969) came over from Germany and also lived in Philadelphia.

I grew up in New England but was always a westerner at heart. I moved to Utah when I was 19; Colorado at 27, and will be moving to Arizona in May.

Right smack dab in the middle of the country. So no baggage! Just me, I am there, wherever I go anyway.

Being a military brat, I learned to bloom wherever I was planted. I’m now blooming and rooted in Western North Carolina.
