" To reap the benefits that artificial intelligence can bring to healthcare, HIPAA restrictions and overall attitudes toward data privacy must be relaxed, according to Luke Miner, PhD, a data scientist at Plaid and Tunebend...

The most pragmatic solution, though, according to Dr. Miner, would be to scale back some of HIPAA's stricter regulations: calibrate fines for HIPAA violations based on the level of verifiable harm and the size of the institution, and introduce standardized data-sharing agreements." https://www.beckershospitalreview.co...ealthcare.html

HIPPA is supposed to protect individual privacy but should our privacy be restricted to enhance institutions for their profit? What are your thoughts?

With mandated electronic health records we've already crossed the line to having widespread availability of our health data.

When something becomes "mandated" you have to figure that it's part of a bigger picture.

When I went to Urgent Care a few months ago I was required to electronically sign blind documents. When I asked for copies the girl must have been have PMS problems as she threw insults about how no one else asks to have them and slammed the papers at me. While waiting to see the doctor, I read the fact that I had signed away my HIPPA Rights allowing them to give/sell my data any unregulated third party they want. Of course I have the option to opt out but they offer no information regarding where to get the documents to do that. I'm getting very frustrated with all the data mining. At the top of the documents I was required to sign before treatment, it states Void if Printed. I guess that means they can electronically change their docs to anything they want at any time.

Ph.D. or not, some people just open their mouths on subjects they do not understand. HIPPA provides some privacy for individual healthcare information. It does not prevent data from being used to understand disease. This character is working in a private data processing business and seems to want unrestricted access. That is not going to happen.

I posted the link to raise awareness about how clever they are at getting around our HIPPA rights for their profits. Silence is acceptance and I cannot be silent about tactics like his.
