At one point I have more than 25 pairs of flip flops, why? At .99c a pair, it seems like a bargain. Plus my kids donated me some too, some colors I don’t have, so I keep it.
Wow, according to this we have been a lot more frugal than I realized. It has felt fine, too...don't feel that I have missed anything. I have felt very fortunate.
Looking at that list, it makes me realize that man does not live by bread alone. Yeah, some of those items are extravagances, but I work hard and want to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Cars, boats, vacations, shopping sprees, etc are something I work hard to afford.
If you want to really live frugally , move into a tent, eat acorns and twigs, and sock all that money away for a time that you might never live to see.
Pretty much did every single one of them...and still do. My retirement is secure and we will have more than we do now within 2 years of retiring. In the end, everything is about income.
I like these threads. We all know how someone else should be spending their money.
Unless they cost me money, and I don't mean tax dollars, I don't care. But...….. I do wonder about women's shoes. I have never or known anyone that has ever said " I'm going after that one because I really like those shoes." We aren't looking at your shoes. They can be from 2 different pairs and most men won't notice. I wonder, but don't judge because as I said before they aren't spending my money.
This article annoyed me when I read it this morning. Not the advice in it, but the comments I knew that were going to be posted as people read it throughout the day. It’s yet another opportunity for judging and bragging about being frugal. Threads like this bring out the worst in people as they try to out-frugal everyone else.
I agree, but only about the bragging aspect. A lot of C-D threads stimulate boasting over spending LOTS of money, or about not caring how warm the house is kept in winter or how cool in summer, etc. It is the flip side of bragging about frugality or minimalism, yet still bragging.

Well if you have one income about the national average or below, it's hardly bragging because you needed to watch where your money went. Speaking for myself, there just wasn't the money to do many of the things listed and I'm not a minimalist. Going out to eat at a decent restaurant was always a luxury and didn't happen very often. I learned to make things last instead of running out and buying new ones out of necessity, not because I didn't want to have a new computer or car every couple of years. I made paying my mortgage and saving a couple of dollars a priority with not much money left for fun things every month and I'm not complaining at all. It was my choice. I just couldn't afford many of those things listed. If that's bragging to some people, then i guess I'm guilty.
