I started college in the fall of 1976. I remember this being blasted in the dorm every day, interspersed with Boz Scaggs and Foghat, and occasionally, Steely Dan.

We were one year apart. The music blasting in our dorm was....

Queen, Eagles, Aerosmith, Foghat, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, ZZ Top, Jethro Tull, Hall & Oates, Boz Scaggs, Stevie Miller, Fleetwood Mac, KC & Sunshine Band, Rod Stewart, The Spinners...

Did someone say The Spinners?! They had a little hit in 1976 called Rubberband Man.

Recorded straight off the Midnight Special... yet another flashback!

I went to a small liberal arts college in midwestern farm country. There were probably 20 African American students, mostly from Chicago, out of 2500 total (let's just say that "diversity" meant Catholics dating Lutherans). But 2 of the 20 lived right next door, and they introduced me to The Spinners.

Rubberband Man, Games People Play, Could It Be I'm Falling in Love, I'll be Around, Then Came You, One of a Kind (Love Affair)......

I can still hear (feel) the beat, through paper-thin dorm walls, and it brings a big smile.

I could have sworn my roommate and I watched them on TV doing their routine with giant rubber bands, but I can't find a YouTube video of it.

I do remember seeing The Spinners perform this again later (with or without rubber bands), our cat watching avidly with his head following each movement up and down, side to side.

If you saw Talking Heads at CBGB, I'm insanely jealous. What was it like?

Fortunately by '77 I turned 18, started college and found The Ramones, Clash, Talking Heads. Good time to live in NYC.

I can't recall 1976 without thinking of "Right Back Where We Started From," which was constantly on the radio:

I saw Linda Ronstadt and Randy Newman in concert that year.

That was the year I got married -- in January. My mind wasn't much on the music that year and looking over the list of the top 100 it looks like I didn't miss all that much. I recognize a couple dozen songs but none stand out all that much. I was 28 and mostly enjoyed earlier 70's groups and music.
