A guys stereo in ‘76 was more important than his girl friend (practically). Listening to albums, borrowing and lending, taping them if you had a cassette deck. The ‘70’s are still my favorite music era. Three Dog Night (“One”, “Joy to the World”, especially) Rod Stewart, ELP, Elton John, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, I still have all their LPs, and cassettes, about 1000 of each. And listen often to them. I will have to see if I have Silk Degrees.
I was in the US Army stationed in Germany in the mid 1970s. I've got lots memories of music from that era, because every Friday and Saturday night, I was probably at a disco somewhere within an hour from my Army post. Abba, the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Doobie Brothers, Bellamy Brothers could be heard almost any night, along with a mix of German schlagermusik (pop type songs in German).
Now that I'm retired, I come here to Germany for the summer and still like going out on weekends to hear some tunes and sip a beer. This summer I'm in Leipzig, a few hundred kilometers east of my old Army post, so sometimes it feels like the past was not so long ago.
For Peter Frampton, who's facing a tough diagnosis. 1976 was his year.
I didn't know about the diagnosis. Just looked it up. Sad.
(From Wikipedia: On 22 February 2019 Frampton announced his Peter Frampton Finale—The Farewell Tour commencing on 18 June 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, running through 12 October ending in San Francisco California. The tour features special guest Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening, as well as Peter's son Julian Frampton on the West Coast stops.[47] He also revealed the reason for the farewell tour; he's received a diagnosis that he has inclusion body myositis (IBM), a progressive muscle disorder characterized by muscle inflammation, weakness, and atrophy (wasting).[48]
In 1976 I was still in awe of that album released the year before, the greatest thing I'd ever heard, then or since then!
Thx
