We have threads asking how many cars, jobs, houses, hospital visits, and other things people have had in their lives. I am totally puzzled about the appeal for this sort of question. Is this some sort of trip down memory lane? Does anyone really care about the count that others come up with?

I have enjoyed this forum. Retirement means a new phase in life with new goals and new issues. It can be interesting and valuable to see the preferences and approaches of others. Then there are some silly, fun threads posted entirely for entertainment purposes.

I just puzzled by the appeal of the "how many" threads. They don't seem to be entertaining or fun or informative or valuable. I guess I am missing something because they seem very popular.

Apparently there are some posters that want to compare themselves to others.
Seems like one poster is creating a lot of these just recently. Maybe they just are bored and have nothing better to do. Nothing really useful or informative about it, for sure.

I answered the first "how many". Then I noticed how many "how many" threads there were and figured someone is doing a thesis, taking a poll for an article or doing some type of "old people" study and stopped answering.

We moderators are wondering too. But, they do not violate the Terms of Service, so they stand for now.

I too don't have much interested in the subject, so I don't bother reading those threads. Just skip 'em if you don't care about 'em.

No, I am not complaining and certainly would not want them removed. I am just curious as to why they are so popular.

Unfortunately, there will always be many who will continue to answer them, instead of just passing them by. It just encourages them.

This forum isn't nearly as bad as others. Some have the same question asked nearly every week.

I see what you did there. No other answers required. (A wink and a nod to Douglas Adams)
