Anyway, we have a moderator now and she's doing a good job. If someone is obnoxious, just report them and she may zap them if she feels that it's warranted.
I think it is ridiculous to focus on who has passed away. And to not post because of it?

And the fighting you mention about men against women in the past - two of the posters who have passed away were responsible for almost all of the fighting and instigated the fighting of men against women with their personalities, comments, and reactionary views.

That's why the fighting you mention no longer exists or is almost nonexistent, particularly the men against women, because the two posters who were responsible for almost all of the fighting and instigated it have passed away.

People should be 'zapped for being obnoxious'? Since when is being 'obnoxious' a reason to be censored or capped or penalized? I think focusing on 'obnoxious' is a weird suggestion.

I see plenty of obnoxiousness on C-D forums (some on retirement forum) and it is rarely addressed. Obnoxiousness or imbecility or ignorance or stupidity or lack of knowledge or banality is ignored.

You are entitled to your above views of course.

I thought it might be the 'Women Retiring Alone' thread. (if it isn't the 'Living on a Shoe String' thread)

I pulled up the Living on a Shoe String original thread not too long ago to post it for someone who was interested in that topic.

I don't think I said I didn't post because of the people who had passed away. I still post here (obviously) but there was one person I really got along well with, met in person, and she's one who is gone. We had bonded pretty well and it's one less person to come in and chat with. There were a few others who livened things up and that's gone too. It still makes me a little bit sad that these people are gone and I don't think I'm the only one who misses them.

Right, the fighters are a couple of the people who have passed away. That was how they felt and it wasn't pleasant to watch the fighting but that's how they felt. Those posters had a lot of positive attributes too so I wasn't happy to see them go and am not more inclined to come here now that they're gone

And, can you not take a little humor? People on CD ARE "zapped" when they become obnoxious. It's called getting an infraction. Sorry that you think it's a weird suggestion but we should all be conscious of people breaking the rules or just being plain mean to other people. We should report them. Mods should infract or warn them.

Many thanks for giving me permission to possess my own views. Same to you.

Forums have their ups and downs and sometimes things get slow and other times they're racing along. We are just making our own observations and comments in this thread.

I'm not sure how people know. But, in the instance of the most recent (deceased) poster who I am aware of -- Escort Rider -- people knew, and they knew rather quickly.

I have been away for a long time. I just looked up "Curmudgeon" and found out that he passed away (not all that long ago). That is a big surprise -- I don't know why but I always thought that Curmudgeon would live forever, posting on C-D.

I got on C-D, about 10 years ago, because I became ill and was pretty much confined to home for about three years. In many ways, C-D was a life saver for me. However and also, during those three years at home, I started doing some research and working on a project (that I never though would amount to anything). Then I got well again (very unexpectedly -- I wasn't supposed to get well). By then I knew I didn't want to spend my life just posting stuff (on C-D or anywhere). So I got a life (again) and I also continued with my project, which, just in the past year, has gotten at least some substantial support -- it'll take about another year to see if it really takes off (not a business or anything to do with generating income).

So I just thought I'd 'stop by' and see what was going on here. I'm glad to know that the Retirement forum is alive and well.

i am just the opposite , i wouldn't have any interest here if it was to discuss cats , kids and peeing at night .

these things are of no interest to me at all .. i like learning and improving myself .. so i stick to what interests me and forget the rest. but i find that there are those with no interest in anything financial that ruin some of the potentially good conversations by attacking posters who talk numbers . if they have no interest i can't understand why they would even bother with those threads , just to lash out at someone..

I still make a few posts a day, but have found so many of the threads to be repetitious that I just pass over a lot of them. I also find the "how many" threads, and others that have nothing to do with retirement, to be dull. I don't really want to know how many cars someone I've never met has owned, or their grooming habits, etc.

My DH used to say I was addicted to the forum, but I was gone for 3 weeks recently with no internet access and I was a little surprised that no one noticed. I actually survived quite well without the forum. LOL

I find that there are some good financial discussions, but can get condescending. Maybe because the same ideas/viewpoints have been repeated so many times.
