I was recently at a suburban home where a medical emergency occurred.
The house, set back from the street was located on a dark, winding type lane, with other houses in similar settings nearby
It took several minutes (didn't time it) for the help to arrive and when they did it was too late, although many life saving attempts were made by the family before they arrived.
The terrible incident got me thinking about how critical is to live in fairly close proximity for medical help to promptly arrive and have a good hospital nearby, too.
Advice I've heard says to live as close as you can to your local fire department, close to a major research hospital in a town that has an international airport and you are well located.
Had an office mate that thought like that. Wouldn't go on vacation if he couldn't book a hotel within walking distance of a hospital. Everything he did was based on proximity to a hospital.
To each his own. That's not the type of life style I want to live.

If it took just several minutes for help to arrive and it was too late as you say then??? Help rarely gets to you faster than that. So what is the point of living next to a hospital or having an international airport? Ever heard of a helicopter pad?
I think when it’s your time to go, it’s your time. I keep seeing posters here saying you need to live close to a world class hospital in retirement. I say live where you want and worry about what may never be needed.
Fire station is 5 minutes, Hospital is 10 minutes. International Airport is 45-40 minutes; thank god I'm not too worried about needing to flee the country at the drop of a hat.

My BIL is like that. He won't even come down here to our small town with my sister for family events.
He thinks it is too far from medical services.
I figure if its your time to go - even being next to the Mayo clinic won't help.
I'm within a few hundred yards of a police station downtown. With that said, drug use, prostitution, and petty property crime are high. My community is in a locked gate, but I wouldn't want to leave my car on the street.
