I'm looking for a place no one knows about yet - these sorts of blogs/magazines/articles often are 180-degrees from what I'm actually looking for.

Who designated these folks the “foremost authority” on where to retire? The link you posted is obnoxious with their constant moving graphics so you can’t even pinpoint what to chose to read.

just put your cursor on a picture but don't click. It stops the motion.

I've read some of their articles. Or at least tried. They're geared for folks with considerably more money than me. and for couples.

None of them consider family into the equation either. I'll stay right where I am at for that reason.

I skimmed thru and boy, you are spot on -- not for me, even if I did have that kind of money

I did what TBMorgan wants to do --- retired somewhere most of the rest of the world doesn't know about or doesn't want to be.

That was 16 years ago and I am still as happy now as I was then ----- not off the grid but pretty far off the radar, yet only 15-20 minutes from the county hospital with a helicopter pad and I think the hospital just across the county line also has a Heli pad

that's funny because I'm currently at a location scouting out an area and I do my daily fitness at a YMCA co-located with a county hospital that has the very same thing (helipad) ---one of my thoughts about finding the right spot is to have some reliable medical care and catastrophic care if needed.

I didn't realize how important catastrophic care was going to be until DH needed it. He was clear up on the ridge, cleaning brush from a fence row, when his skinny-never-smoked-a-day-in-his-life-self had a heart attack.

Somehow he managed to get the 4-wheeler and trailer down to the house. I drove like a Bat out of Hades down off our road, to the local hospital. It's a scary thing to be standing next to your car in the hospital parking lot and seeing the Vanderbilt helicopter lifting to head to Vanderbilt and knowing DH was in it.

That was 2012 and he is still perfectly fine But my point is yes --- find your spot within reasonable proximity to medical and catastrophic care. It's getting to be a big deal in Tennessee counties that are more rural than mine is. I know for sure of one hospital that has recently closed due to not being profitable.

I came to C-D to consider where to live after I retire. Now that I am retired and done about 6 years of research and travel we have decided that there is No Place Like Home.
