I don't normally go to places that have tip jars. The ones i remember are the type of eating establishment where you order at a counter and then go pick up your food?
I don't like that type of place. I like to sit and relax with a menu and have my order taken. So do not mind tipping them.
The same person doesn't necessarily clean your room every day.
I just said I don't have the room cleaned every day. I don't have it cleaned at all unless I'm there 3 days or more. There are usually tons of towels, and I can always ask for a fresh one if I need it. I just don't need someone in my room on a daily basis, I don't make that big of a mess, and I use the "do not disturb" sign when I'm out. The maid on the last day is the one cleaning up my mess, so she gets the tip.
Perhaps if you can't afford the costs of services you ought to stop using the services.
So much this.
Slightly off topic, I recently stayed at a hotel that had a sign stating the policy was that rooms would be cleaned a minimum of every three days. I don't know if that's the new normal or whatever, but it worked for me, after three days fresh towels and cleans sheets are a necessity. Dealing with other people's demands and their messes is never fun, I don't begrudge a few extra dollars in tips for people in service industries.

Oh I can afford services. I just don't think all services should involve tips.
I don't tip the guy at the oil change place.
I don't tip at buffets.
I don't tip at FF places.
I don't tip for services that are contracted and bid upon like plumbing, electric work, floor installation.
Those are some examples where I do not tip regardless of current expectations.
