This has nothing to do with retirement, but everything to do with nostalgia. Where where you and what were you doing when Apollo 11 landed on the moon?
I watched the moon landing with my parents and younger brother over at a neighbor’s house. Sadly, I remember it mostly because I was fascinated by the dark paneling the neighbors had on their den walls, and because I was being allowed to stay up late. Strange is the mind of a six year old!
I was home for the weekend visiting family. I was fascinated by it all, and sad that my mother didn't live to see it. I assumed exploring space would become a standard and routine thing to watch on TV--little did I know.

When did this happen? I just got the internet and did not know we landed on the moon. <Baffled Look>
I gave birth to my son on the day the Saturn V was launched carrying astronauts to the moon. My son and I watched from the hospital window at Cape Canaveral as the rocket went up, up. When the lunar lander approached the moon, I had my 3 day old son in front of the tv to witness the landing. Took pictures of the television and my son watching. I had worked for NASA on that program for years. Very, very special time.
I remember it quite clearly. At a friend's house watching with her, her parents, kid brother, and cat. I remember the room, the furniture, the weather outside, and that I was eating steamed green beans out of a pot resting on an orange hot pad on my lap.
I remember the event and seeing it but not where I was at the time... probably saw it at my parents' house. That was the summer before my senior year at college and I was working night shift making howitzer shells so I might have been at work when it happened.
We also were invited to the next door neighbors' house. They were like surrogate grandparents to us. Mrs R, who usually went to bed with the birds, even stayed up that night.
I was at the US Coast Guard Air Station on Annette Island, Alaska. The supply officer who was my boss let us have the day off from work so we could watch it on the TV in the rec room.
I have no clue. I was 27, married, two small kids, working full time and probably wasn't thinking about it.
