Hey, I'll take whatever I can get!!

I wonder if the police still ask older people to do the "balance on one leg" field sobriety test? Balance is one thing I need to work on.

I'm always worried about that one. My one leg balance is not the greatest even when sober.

I sit on our tall bed so I can be that person who does NOT "put their pants on one leg at a time".

Both legs at once. Socks, shoes go on, THEN I stand up. It's just how I roll. Not a flexible thing, since I can toe-touch with ease.

Standing, late 60s.

After I badly sprained an ankle a number of years ago, the PT had me balance for 1 minute on each foot during therapy. You do get better at it and now I can do that for many minutes (good idea from the poster about during teeth brushing).

Another good indication of lower body strength is a LTC insurance test of sitting in a hard chair, cross arms, and sit and rise 10 times relatively quickly. I think that is more realistic than getting off the floor with no hands. Again, you improve with practice.

Sort of standing...leaning a bit against a wall....I'm always catching a foot in something, so it helps to have the wall there...if that makes sense! I've always had terrible balance and am something of a klutz!

Wouldn't the pants themselves come into play? looser/baggier pants require less finagling of the foot/ankle than tighter ones...Just my .02.

62, and I sit. But I think I always have. I don't know.
